We are delighted to warmly welcome you all to the sustainability program plan for cultural unity, proudly organized by the central working committee of Juway Sherpa Serving Hands in Mapya-Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality – 01, Bumburi (Juway), Solukhumbu, Nepal. With approximately 95 households and a population of 565 comprising major ethnicities of Sherpa, Rai, and other Dalits, the community rely primarily on agriculture and tourism sectors for their livelihood. As time moves forward and development advances, we, as humans, have no choice but to embrace the concept of sustainability. Therefore, we are confident that all our compatriots residing across the world will wholeheartedly support this project.
Going back to time, Juway Sherpa Serving Hands was founded in 2008 AD under the leadership of Mr. Ang Kaji Sherpa with the support of 11 working committee members. It is a proud moment for all of us that we crossed the span of 17 years of growths, achievements and meaningful social works including managing scholarships for 30 outstanding students from underprivileged economic background continuously for 7 years funded by generous foreign donors and coordinated by our founder treasurer, Mr. Ang Pemba Sherpa. Similarly, considering the need for a proper space for rituals during births, deaths, and other cultural events, we have constructed a building on our organization’s 7-acre land that can accommodate around 100 people.
Despite budget allocations from government levels and aid from donor agencies, many building structures fail to meet sustainability standards, often resulting in costly demolition and relocation processes. As development progresses, we mapped the project master plan to address additional needs and to tackle the challenges raised by lack of concept of sustainable development with modern engineering techniques. As a solution, Juway Sherpa Serving Hands has proposed constructing a sustainable cultural center building according to modern engineering standards while preserving traditional architectural design.
Under the coordination of Mr. Lakpa Sonam Sherpa, the current President of the Juway Sherpa Serving Hands, the project will be carried out in Bumburi (Juway) using 3D engineering technology designed specifically for the local geography. The engineering design for the project has been entrusted to Sherpa Architect & Associates. This project will include a building with a capacity for up to 250 people, a modern kitchen and office, and a four-room quarter capable of accommodating 3 / 4 / 6 people, equipped with sleeping space for religious leaders, monks travelling from afar to conduct rituals during birth, death and other traditional ceremonies. Additionally, the project will feature a camping area with separate facilities for men and women, a stupa reflecting the community’s religious and cultural heritage, a main gate representing local culture, and parking space for vehicles. We envisaged that this cultural center will stand out as a tourist-friendly destination along the popular hiking trail to Mera Peak.
The total cost for this project is estimated around Nrs. 42.8 million, (USD 316K). We kindly request and look forward to receiving the necessary budget support from the rural municipality, provincial government, and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation to make this project a reality. Since the government budget alone will not be sufficient, I earnestly appeal to all non-governmental organizations and donor agencies for their cooperation and support in this initiative. As Jube Village is set to become a cultural and touristic hub in the near future, I humbly appeal to all Nepali brothers and sisters across the country and abroad, to lend their support to this important initiative. Your contributions and involvement will help shape the future of our community.
In conclusion, since the development master plan is not as easy as it seems, there are challenges along with the work, so I urge everyone to share their thoughts, suggestions, and support as we move forward. Your invaluable contributions, along with the support of your family, will be forever remembered in the pages of long history and engraved in a copperplate.
Thank you for taking the time to read and understand this vision.
